AAKG (arginine alpha-ketoglutarate) is a compound made from the amino acid L-arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) a substance formed in the body’s energy-generating process.
Essential for the healthy functioning of the human body, arginine is an amino acid involved in many of the body’s metabolic processes, it contributes to the oxidation of nutrients (i.e., amino acids, glucose, fatty acids) and then provides energy for cell processes.
AAKG is a precursor to nitric oxide, and popular ingredient in pre-workout formulas. It is used by athletes to improve sports performance, reduce muscle fatigue, and enhance recovery. It is also used to treat kidney disease, intestinal and stomach disorders, liver problems and cataracts.
